sociological methods

Sociological investigation is divided two types. It’s quantitative and qualitative. Quantitative methods of sociological research use specific method like surveys, statistical analysis, etc. In term of social phenomena can be measured. Qualitative methods of sociological research use other things like interview, participant observation, etc to approach deep inside of social phenomena.
Sociologist select quantitative method that positivism approach when predict social phenomena. It’s proving a prediction is correct or not using observations, hypotheses and deductions. At this time, It is essential that iterations and recursions of 4 elements: characterization, hypothesis, prediction, experiment. Characterization is defining object something unclear. This step is necessary in accurate, proper examination. Hypothesis indicate cause or association using dependent variable and independent variable. Prediction find out whether hypothesis right or not. Experiment is a test actually the hypothesis is collect. It really verify accumulated and designed theory before then.

There are so many differences between sociology and science. But I think there are few difference in research method. These information are in high school education course also. However it was a little, so I can study more than that I already knew.

I wonder difference between quantitative and qualitative method. And I want to know more exemplification about quantitative and qualitative method.

  4. I posted about quantitative and qualitative methods, too. In my opinion, quantitative methods is appropriate to get data about typical trends or social pattern etc. And qualitative methods is more appropriate to find answer the question 'Why?'.
