High Culture

Many people today think of culture in the way that it was thought of in Europe during the 18th and early 19th centuries.According to this understanding of culture, some countries are more civilized than othres, and some people are more cultured than others.
 In practice, culture reffered to elite goods and activities such as haute cuisine, high fashion ot haute couture and so on.The word cultured reffered to people who knew about and took part in these activities.


My opinion

WHY emerges distinction between cultures? We commonly think high culture is luxurious and belongings of upper class. On the othre hand, low culture is more exoteric than high culture. Today, low cultures be hailed as mass culture. Mass culture is developing and boast high standard. Also, high culture is gradually popularized. So, the boundary between high culture and mass culture is almost disappear.
