Introduction to Sociology/Culture

1. Summary :  Culture, which is necessary to determine who we are, created only by humans. "stories, beliefs, media, ideas, work of art, religious practices, fashions, rituals, specialized knowledge, and common sense"(Griswold, Wendy. 2004) are the elements that represent human culture. However, culture encompasses objects and symbols, and the norms, values, and beliefs that pervade social life. Today, many people understood the concept of culture as civilization. But this understanding of culture came from thought in Europe during the 18th and early 19th centuries. Most social scientists today reject this concept of culture. Instead, they accept and advocate the definition of culture outlined above as being the "nurture" component of human social life.

2. What was interesting/What did you learn :  The fact that the concept of culture in today, which many people understood, was thought in Europe, was very interested.

3. Discussion Point : Why Modern European's understanding of culture has been prevalent in today? Schools teach about culture prejudicially?

  1. The main points of your outline is the definition of culture. This summary is similar to my summary.
My thoughts on your discussion point, schools fairly probably teach. Because schools don't impose a particular idea.
