Introduction to Sociology/Sociological Theory

Sociologist develop theories to express social phenomena.
Functionalism is a theory that each process, institution, practice help meet the the needs of society, so as to maintain the equilibrium state of society.
On the contrary, Conflict Theory argues that there are disorders in society, and Conflict contribute to the development of society.
Symbolic Interactionism emphasize the symbols and meanings when people communicate to each other. There are also many other theories such as Role Theory, Social Constructionism, Integration Theory which are prominent in sociology.

While looking for material, I became interested in Symbolic Interactionism. I think this theory seems to be an emphasis on communication compared with other theory. Further, the use of research tools such as participant observation is interesting for me.

I think Social Constructionism and Symbolic Interactionism are similar.
What's the difference and similarity between the two theories?
