High Culture / Ethnocentrism & Cultural Relativism
High Culture
A high culture, on the basis of culture was born in Europe, and inequality in the colony, it's contrast to the non-civilization and nature.
Classical music and ballet are representing High Culture.
Keep in mind that, in any given society, culture is not necessarily rigid and totally uniform. As is the case with most elements of social life, culture is relatively stable.
I think High Culture is based on the supremacy of the people of European culture.
And I think cultures can not be given a relative merits, these recognitions are error.
Ethnocentrism & Cultural Relativism
Ethnocentrism can give rise to serious conflicts and discrimination.
However, this can be useful to strenthening human relations and social bonds.
Within this ideology, individuals will judge other groups in relation to their own particular ethnic group or culture, especially with concern to language, behaviour, customs, and religion. It also involves an incapacity to acknowledge that cultural differentiation does not imply inferiority of those groups who are ethnically distinct from one's own.
In short, Ethnocentrism is generally negative, but some positive features are in it.
Cultural Relativism
Cultural relativism is the belief that the concepts and values of a culture cannot be fully translated into, or fully understood in, other languages; that a specific cultural artifact has to be understood in terms of the larger symbolic system of which it is a part. Slang is good example about Cultural relativism.
I know newly about Ethnocentrism & Cultural Relativism and I should study about that
