Introduction to Sociology/Stratification

Socioeconomic Status

It is a theory that Max Weber was created, this is defined as socioeconomic status (or SES) in society scholars nowadays. There are a variety of ways to measure SES. These measures reflect three characteristics of individuals: power, property, and prestige.

POWER
Power refers to someone’s ability to get others to do his/her will, regardless of whether or not they want to. It has two different meaning ;Legitimate power which is called authority and Illegitimate power which is called coercion.

Property
Property, as used in this context, refers to the sum total of one’s possessions as well as their regular income. It reflects the accumulated wealth.

Prestige
Prestige refers to the reputation or esteem associated with one’s position in society. Prestige is now generally linked to one's occupation. An individual’s prestige is closely tied to their social class – the higher the prestige of an individual, the higher the social class.

My opinion
When I was high school students, I studied Max Weber's Social Stratification. Therefore, This chapter is felt easy to me. I want to study more about Max Weber and economics.
