(Extra)Social movements

Summary


Social movements are any broad social alliances of people who are connected through their shared interest in blocking or affecting social change.Multiple alliances may work separately for common causes and still be considered a social movement.
A social movement organization is a formally organized component of a social movement.

Giddens has identified four areas in which social movements operate in modern societies: democratic movements that work for political rights
labor movements that work for control of the workplace
ecological movements that are concerned with the environment
peace movements that work toward, well, peace.


My Opinion


I think Social movements are very important point of sociology. Social movement change sociology, and social movement helps weak people allow have power. So I agree many social movements. So it should not be dismissed as a riot. Strong people have to listen weak people' s social movements.

  1. I think social movements is important, too. Because, we are in indirect democracy. So purpose of government can differ from people. And if government ignore and suppress the people, social movements can be way to express wish of people.
